The retirement village, Sage Gardens, has villas set amidst beautiful, lush gardens surrounding a sparkling, blue lake. Everything is peaceful in the small, secure retirement community.
That is until a resident, James, dies at his birthday party. Given his age it is presumed that he died of natural causes, but foul play is suspected and three residents join forces to try and uncover the truth. Although they are retired they use their skills and experiences from their professions as a detective, crime journalist, and accountant in the search for the murderer. But first they have to work out who a mysterious, yet familiar resident is.
Just who is the mystery resident and will she prove to be an ally or foe? Will the ‘Sage Gardens Sleuths’ be able to catch the killer before one of them becomes a victim themselves?
Birthdays Can Be Deadly Sage Gardens Cozy Mystery Book 1 edition by Cindy Bell Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks
I was hoping to like this book but I'm forcing myself to finish it. I find it boring, the characters dull and the description of Sage Gardens more like an ALF (adult assisted living facility) than a retirement village. I live in an active senior community in AZ and thank goodness it's nothing like the community depicted in this book. I think a writer should visit a couple active senior communities for background when using one for the setting.I really wanted to find a series with interesting senior characters, exciting story and captive writing. This is not the book.

Birthdays Can Be Deadly Sage Gardens Cozy Mystery Book 1 edition by Cindy Bell Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
This is the first book of Ms.Bell's series regarding a senior retirement community. The characters are from different backgrounds and come together to solve a murder that happened at the complex's community room during a birthday celebration. This was a fun book read and held my interest throughout the story.
I plan to read other books in this series as they come up.
This is a good book with retired cop, a journalist, a computer expert and a criminal all trying to solve a murder and a stolen watch. Eddy, the cop, doesn't trust the retired criminal, Jo, but they all work together to try to solve the crime. Each do their part to figure it out. Cute little story and a tricky mystery.
This is a new cozy mystery series and it looks like a good one. I enjoyed this and I am sure it will just get better as we get to know this senior mystery team. I look forward to more adventures with Sam, Eddy and Walt. I was given this book with the understanding that I would leave an honest review.
Another reviewer listed all the crimes and court inadmissible actions the characters, a crime writer, a former detective and an accountant would have obviously known. I didn't hate the book, I didn't not like the characters, but the book was flimsy and not believable, even for the "cozy mystery" genre.
Former crime journalist Samantha teams up with retired cop Eddy and Walt the accountant to solve the murder of their retirement home friend. An easy read. Characters stay true to their initial encounter Sam's optimistic, Eddy's a grump, Walt's OCD. The author lays down a few red herrings, but it's clear who the killer is fairly early. Still the story was enjoyable.
I go this book for free.it was an ok book. Kind of predictable. It's set in a retirement community. A friend dies at his birthday party. A retired detective,.crime writer assume it's murder and enlist a retired accountant to help solve a crime they are not even sure happened. In the end it turns out it was.murder. The murderer wasn't a surprise at all. I figured it out before the body even hit the floor. It was an amusing read though. The characters.we're predictable. If u want a quick, amusing read them this one is for.you.
This was a relatively fun cozy mystery involving an unusual group of senior amateur sleuths in a beautiful retirement village.
For the most part, I enjoyed the book, but it was not without its issues for me--namely, the excessive use of repetitive adverbs such as sternly, sharply, and darkly. There was also way too much frowning, glaring and narrowing of eyes. Much of the book seemed to consist of a rehashing of known facts and theories over and over again without any real progress in the case until near the end. The identity of the murderer didn't come as a shock or a surprise to me, either.
As for the characters, it was a little difficult to really connect with any of them. Eddy was just a little too cynical, rigid and insensitive for my liking even though I could understand that some of his attitude stemmed from his former profession of a police detective. And, while I try to maintain a positive attitude in my own personal life, I found Samantha's persistent chipper, overly optimistic outlook became somewhat grating and annoying after a while. Walt seemed like a nice guy but his fussy, timid manner made him a little unlikeable at times.
All in all, this was not a bad book, just not quite in the same league as some of the other cozy mystery series I have read.
I was hoping to like this book but I'm forcing myself to finish it.
